The Problem

The NDSEG Fellowship program was running a federal application process for 70,000+ applicants through SurveyMonkey — a consumer survey tool with no case management, no role-based access, and no way to track the full applicant lifecycle. Program administrators were manually managing data across spreadsheets and email threads.

The Process

STI-TEC was contracted to build a purpose-built platform. I led UX end-to-end — conducting user research with program administrators, defining the information architecture for the full applicant lifecycle, and presenting high-fidelity Figma prototypes directly to DOD stakeholders for approval.

The Solution

A custom platform with full lifecycle management from application intake through award, post-award tracking, and historical data — reducing manual overhead and giving administrators a single source of truth for 4,700+ awarded fellows.
